Itinerary
Let the adventure begin with arrival by private plane, landing in a spectacular setting, Wilderness North’s Miminiska Lodge is tucked deep into the boreal forests of Northern Ontario, surrounded by lakes and rivers.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL AND ORIENTATION
The 55-minute flight from Thunder Bay International Airport to Miminiska Lodge covers 400 kilometres of pristine wilderness, river valleys and lakes. Flights are met by our lodge managers, and staff will transfer guest luggage to each cabin. Following check-in and breakfast, guests will meet in the main lodge for orientation. A member of the Ojibwe First Nation will perform a cultural smudging ceremony, followed by a review of the daily itinerary for each guest with guides.
Guests may spend the afternoon exploring the lodge and surrounding area Complimentary guest activities include yoga, paddle boarding, canoeing, kayaking or badminton. As well, paddling lessons are available upon request. Guests are welcome to swim, relax on the dock, or on the decks of their private cabin. Pre-dinner cocktails, fine Ontario wines and local craft beer, are included with evening meals. Following dinner in the main lodge, guests will meet with local First Nations interpretive guides for an introduction to the unique experiences that they will share, and enjoy a traditional bonfire on the beach.
DAYS 2-4: EXPERIENCE NATURE IN THE NORTHERN ONTARIO WILDERNESS
Freshly brewed coffee or tea is delivered daily to guest cabins at a pre-arranged time. A la carte breakfast is served in the main dining lodge from 7 am to 10 am. Over 3 days, guests have many options to explore the unique landscape and history of Northwestern Ontario. A vast network of lakes and rivers weave their way through the surrounding Boreal forests, which dot the Canadian Shield.
Personalized activities include:
• Canoeing, kayaking, and standup paddleboarding
• Nightly bonfires and entertainment
• A lakefront sauna; swimming in Miminiska Lake
• Observe bald eagles, moose– wildlife in their native habitat
• Guided hikes showcasing local flora and geology
• Learning to fish with an expert guide
• An outdoor shore lunch on a private island
• Day trips by boat to Snake Falls and Church Island, two important historical Anishnaabe (First Nations) sites. First Nations interpretive guides will share authentic stories about their lives on this very land
• Evening bonfires, wildlife calls, star gazing, and viewing the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) dancing across the dark night sky
DAY 5: DEPARTURE
Guests will enjoy a relaxing breakfast in the tranquil wilderness, before packing and preparing for departure by private plane. Return flights to Thunder Bay International Airport depart mid-morning and arrive in Thunder Bay by 11 am (weather permitting). Flights are timed to connect with scheduled service.
